Praising God With Our Voices And Not Being Silenced
In reading Psalms 30 today I couldn’t help but think about the beauty of the human voice. MedicineNet.com defines the voice box, or larynx, as, “the portion of the respiratory (breathing) tract containing the vocal cords which produce sound.” The sound of a newborn baby crying when they first come into this world, hearing the voice of a loved one who we have not heard from in too long, or a beautiful voice in a song that moves our soul. And just as God spoke the world into existence, the human voice is a beautiful instrument by which we can praise God and declare his goodness – singing, speaking, declaring – making joyful noise before the Lord.
Scripture:
“What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness? – Psalm 30:9
Observation/Application:
Today’s scripture led me to research throat cancer because that is something that can silence us quickly. From a medical doctor standpoint, the advice is not to expose our bodies to things that cause cancer. We are to avoid things like smoking and alcohol. Similarly, in spiritual terms we should limit our exposure to things that do our spirit harm. What are the things that cause us to stray from obedience to the Lord and his commands? Maybe it’s a group of friends, or even family that is cancer of our Spirit? We understand the severity of being diagnosed with cancer of the body that lead us to our physical death. How much more should we be alarmed of cancer of our Spirit that leads to eternal death?
The other medical recommendation from a prevention standpoint is to fill our bodies with nutritious food that neutralizes the cancer in our bodies. Nutritionists recommend that we eat foods that are high in antioxidants, and foods that have an alkaline effect on our bodies. We’ve all probably heard this stuff before. But have we considered what we can do to protect from cancer of the spirit? Some of these activities include declaring God’s Word, praying, and lifting God’s name through praise and worship. How awesome is it to know that there are ways that we can neutralize the daily cancerous attack on our spirit? And the more that we do these things, the more we are doing ourselves good. It’s just like eating foods rich in antioxidants and keeping the body alkaline – it’s protecting and healing our spirit!
And if you are reading this and happen to not be able to speak, fear not for God can still hear us as we sing praises for Him in our hearts. God knows the heart, the seen and unseen. Nothing is hidden from him!
#We-Will-Not-Be-Silent
Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word this morning. Thanks for taking me down medical lane. Thank you for helping us understand that you are the ultimate doctor. You have not only the power to cure cancer of the body, but cancer of our souls. We know that science is real, and we know more importantly You are real, and are all-knowing and all-powerful and in our earthly bodies and minds we are limited, but in you were are limitless and all things are possible through you. We give you all the honor and glory and praise, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
