Our Shield of Faith Against Enemy Attacks

If we were going into battle an knew that we were going to get attacked with arrows and other weapons, we wouldn’t leave our shield sitting on the floor and not bring it with us. The physical pain that would result from us neglecting to bring it with us would be so obvious every time we took an arrow that penetrated our flesh. After one day without it, we certainly would give it priority over remembering to bring our wallet or cell phone.

Scripture:
“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” – Ephesians 6:16

Observation/Application:
I love the visual used in this scripture. Faith is our shield to fend off attacks. Faith protects us from the arrows of the enemy. The stronger our faith, the greater our defense. This is so important for us to realize when the attack of the enemy comes.

And the attacks will come. No one is exempt from trouble. This is when we need to check our shields. This is when we need to check our faith. Faith ultimately defends us from the attack.

While it is just one piece of the full armor of God, it is such a critical piece. Faith gives us authority over our fears, our concerns, against the devil himself. Let us build up our faith through prayer and through God’s Word. I call you blessed.

#The-Battle-And-Struggle-Are-Real

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for this great Word today. Thank you for revealing to us wisdom that only comes from you. Thank you for filling us with goodness that only comes through you. Help us to be more like you Lord. Build up our faith today Lord, that we can defend all of the attacks of the enemy. Remind us in times of struggle that you are our shield, and that faith is our defense. Fill our hearts with love, that we might be a blessing to anyone who comes across our path today. Let your light shine in our lives. We give you all the honor and glory and praise, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.

Scripture References From Today’s Reflection:

  • “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33
  • “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” – Romans 10:17
  • “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,” – Ephesians 2:8

The Armor of God
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” – Ephesians 6:10-18
