Tongue-Tied?

Ever been tongue-tied and not known what to say? Ever been caught off-guard and lost for Words? Wouldn’t it be nice to always have an answer ready for any question or situation that we might face in life?

Scripture:
“But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.” – Luke 21:14,15

Observation/Application:
Today’s scripture comes from the time when Jesus knows and is preparing his disciples for their future without him. He knows that he is about to leave this world, and he knows that they will need confidence to carry on the good work without him being physically there to ask questions to. Like any good leader, Jesus has spent a lot of time teaching them, answering questions, and giving them practical experience utilizing what he has taught them. They have been trained leaders of faith, and they are going to have to carry the torch moving forward.

And leading in the faith opens you up to a whole new level of scrutiny and persecution. Jesus knew this and even warns the disciples that many will be thrown in jail and questioned on account of Jesus. And Jesus gives them this critical teaching that prepares them to answer any question and face any situation in this life. There is one thing that we can always count on to see us through any circumstance. That is the Word of God.

Even when everything seems to be falling apart. Even when it seems like there is more bickering and fighting than there is peace and harmony. Even when it seems like there is more hatred and betrayal than there is love and understanding. Even when it seems like the world has lost its good sense. The Word of God is now, and will always be, the guiding light that will show us the way. If there was ever a time when the Word of God was so desperately needed, it is now. Let us lean not unto our own understanding, but let us put our faith in God. Let us be led forth by His Word, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. We know that no matter what we face, not matter what situation that we find ourselves in, that your Word will always sustain us. We know that your Word will see us through any situation, answer all of our questions, and meet all of our needs. We seek you first today Lord. Fill us with your wisdom, your peace, your joy, and your love. Let your Holy Spirit fall on us Lord, and fill us with all of your goodness. Deliver us from the enemy, and help us to know that you place anything that is not good and pure and holy under our feet. Help us to make it a great day today. Guide our every step, our every thought, our every Word. Let your love and your light shine in us Lord. Keep us in your Presence all throughout the day. We thank you so much for all that you have done, the work that you are doing right now Lord, and all that you are going to do, in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
