Goals For Our Souls

We all have goals. Some of our goals are for our career, to make a certain level at work. Some of our goals surround our body, and our health, such as hitting a certain weight or level of athletic achievement. We set goals seemingly over every aspect of our physical lives. But have we ever considered goals for our souls?

Scripture:
“For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity, integrity, and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.” – 2 Corinthians 1:12

Observation/Application:
What we can accomplish in life by our own wisdom and strength pales in comparison to what God can do for us. Plus, the pressure that we put on ourselves, the worry, the stress, the pain, the sorrow, the disappointment, that all comes with man-made goals. If we want to live free from all of that, and at the same time operate at a whole other level, then we have to make sure that we are limited by our own power and authority. Instead, we have to ensure that we are following Christ and the Holy Spirit and leaning on God’s unlimited wisdom and authority, power and strength.

How do we do this? Many will give you a complex formula, but the answer is very simple. We just have to follow Christ in everything that we do. That’s all. It doesn’t get any more simple than that. Follow the One who defeated the devil. Follow the One who always wins. Follow the One who overcame death and the grave, and will lead you to eternal life. Follow the One who always keeps his promises. Follow the One who loves you so much that He gave his life for you. Follow the One who is worth following. Follow Jesus. Plain and simple.

If we want to live at a higher level, then like Paul we need to live our lives with integrity, simplicity, holiness, and godly sincerity. We need to set some goals for our souls. Then we can take our relationship with God to a whole other level. We need to make the time and take the time for Him every day, first thing every day, so that we when He speaks to us we know His voice. And from there we just have to put what we want aside, and do what he asks us to do.  From there we can break through, get out of our own way, and let God do far more than whatever we could ever do!

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Help us to set some simple goals for our souls today God. Help us to do simple things like pray first thing when I wake up, before every meal, whenever I have a question, and before I go to bed each night. Help me to read some scripture every morning, just one chapter each day. Help me to take care of my body, which is a temple of your Holy Spirit. Help me find a church, and make it a priority to attend it every Sunday. Help me to thank God every day for all that I have, and all that He does on my behalf. And like a child learning to walk, help me to trust in You, and to walk like You. Help me to take small steps each day that draw me closer to You. We give you all the honor and glory, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
