Nothing Secret, Nothing Hidden

When we choose our close friends, do we choose them because of what they look like? Of course not. We choose them because they are there for us when we need them. We choose them because they actually care about us, not what we have or what we can do for them. We choose friends because of who they are on the inside.

Scripture:
“Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” – Matthew 6:4, Matthew 6:6, Matthew 6:18

Observation/Application:
Jesus repeats this 3 times, in 3 different teachings almost back to back to back. Do you think it is an important concept for us to understand? God sees us on the inside. He does not concern himself with our appearance, by how we fix our hair, or by what we wear. He knows our heart, our true motives, and our true desires. There is nothing secret or hidden from Him.

And so Jesus instructs around this principle. And when we understand this teaching we no longer do things for the sake of impressing others. We do things because they are the right things to do according to the will of God, not because we have to, but because we want to, because we are compelled to, because we love God with all our heart and want to honor and serve Him always.

Who we are on the inside will allow us to do the right thing when there is nothing in it for us. We put our trust in God, and our hope in the Lord.Let us not seek or demand our reward from others, for it comes from God alone. So let us seek God first. As it says in Matthew, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness”, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – (Matthew 6:33)

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Help us to cherish and focus on the inside first Lord, just as you know us from the inside out. And let us not judge others who fall short Lord, and let us forgive each other when we do. Help us to not fall Lord, and we thank you for your grace and your mercy when we do. Let us extend that same mercy to others Lord. help us to be more like you each day, as we seek you first. Purify us on the inside Lord. Uncover the goodness that is in us Lord so that your light will shine bright in us. Let your Holy Spirit come upon us, guide us, and keep us from the enemy. We thank you so very much for putting your Spirit in us Lord, and for breathing life into this dust. We give you all the honor and glory and praise, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
