Make Every Moment Count

I remember it like yesterday. My uncle was telling me this story about an event in his workplace where this guy comes in and grabs him from behind and holds him hostage with a gun pointed at his head. The police showed up, and intense negotiations began in what felt like an eternity where he didn’t know whether or not he was going to live or die, either at the hand of the gun man, or via a stray bullet due to a sudden move, or life-ending struggle.

Scripture:
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” Matthew 24:42

Observation/Application:
My uncle and the police were eventually able to talk the guy down, and my uncle lived to tell about it. And I remember him telling me how that event changed his perspective. He said the sky was a little more blue that day, and his eyes saw everything a little more clearly there for a while. My uncle has since passed, rest in peace Unk.

We know how precious life is. And we’ve heard probably every saying there is, such as “Life is short”, “You only get one life, so make the most of it”, and “Live every moment”, just to name a few. But every once we are reminded of how precious life is. Whether it is a significant event like my uncle had, or via the loss of a loved one, weddings, the birth of a new child – these are events that shift our perspective a little bit. Sometimes it is just a fleeting moment, and other times the impacts are longer lasting. When these events bring us close to life and death, that is when we tend to appreciate life at a whole new level.

There is a funny saying, “There are two things certain in life, death and taxes.” While this may add some levity to the discussion, it is a sobering truth. The fact is, our bodies will eventually give way, and we will all face death. And Jesus, the ultimate problem solver, defeats death and the grave not only for himself, but for all of us. There is so much more that we can talk about here, but I would encourage you to read for yourself what Jesus says about this in Matthew chapter 24.

Life is so precious – every day, every hour, every second. And everything that we do matters. Make every moment count. And do everything in the name of Jesus. Believe in Him, seek Him, and not only will you be saved by faith through His grace, but you will live a life full of more love, peace, and joy than you could ever imagine.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Thank you for your continued revelation, and for allowing me to come to know you more. Help me draw closer to you, and be more like you each and every day. Guide my every word, thought, and deed. Forgive me of my transgressions and wash me clean and make me know. Fill me with all of your goodness. Let your joy overflow in me. Let your peace overflow in me. Let your love overflow in me. Let your Holy Spirit overflow Lord. Help us to cherish each moment, and not take anything for granted. Help us to make every moment count Lord. Help us to live for You! We give you all the honor and glory, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
