The Highest Judge

Depending on where we live, we are all subject to laws that are in place in that area. Something that might be completely legal where you live might be totally illegal in another part of the world. There are even laws that differ within the same country and even state. And we do our best to live by these laws, because we believe that it is within our best interest to obey these laws that we might live in peace with each other. And if we break the law, we get judged and punished.

Scripture:
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” – Hebrews 6:10

Observation/Application:
It is easy for us to think about what is legal because we live with the fear of the consequences. And we feel these consequences in our wallets when we do something wrong and have to pay a fine. And we feel the consequences on the flesh when we are sitting in a jail cell. In the flesh, the result of our disobedience to the law is easy for us to think about because we feel the immediate consequences in our lives.

But how often do we think about the laws of God and our disobedience to His commandments? If we are all truthful, probably not as often. And that is understandable because the pain of disobedience is immediate in the flesh. But the judgement and punishment of disobedience of God’s law is much worse from the standpoint that it is eternal.

And when we look at things from the other side of the coin, from an obedience perspective, what do we get when we are obedient to the laws made by man? Well, we don’t get punished so that is good. But we also do not get blessed. So basically we get nothing, we just avoid pain. But when we are obedient to God’s laws and commands, we get far more than nothing. When we seek the Lord, and honor his laws and decrees and aim to please Him, we are rewarded richly for our obedience. And God is able to bless us far greater than man ever could. Our reward for belief in Jesus Christ and obedience to Him is eternal life, and abundance on this earth.

I’m not saying that we should be disobedient to the laws of man. On the contrary, we should obey the laws of man so that we are doing our best to live in peace. However, if the laws of man conflict with the laws of God, then the laws of man are wrong. If in our minds there needs to be a decision on which law to obey, then we can be assured that man’s laws are flawed. When we consider who we want to believe and what laws that are to obey, let us have no doubt that God is always correct. For God’s laws are in no way flawed, unlike those made by man. God is the Creator, maker of heaven and earth and all things in it, and is perfect in every way. If we are to walk a path of obedience to the law, let us first and always be faithful to God, the ultimate judge above all judges.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. We seek you first Lord. You are our rock and our foundation. Your laws and commands are the ultimate guidepost in our lives. Help us to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to you. Guide our every step, our every word, our every thought. Although our eyes may fail us and limit our understanding, give us wisdom that surpasses anything that we can achieve in the flesh. Let us not limit you in our lives Lord. Bless us beyond our greatest imagination, that we might be a tremendous blessing to others. Draw us close to you Lord, that we hear your voice each day. We give you all the honor and glory and praise, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
