All is Lost – Trust God

Hagar the servant of Sarah had everything going for her it seemed. She was to bear the only son of Abraham, a very wealthy and influential man, because his wife Sarah could not bear children. And this son would be the heir to a great nation. But after the birth of Hagar’s child, Abraham’s wife becomes pregnant and she too has a child. Next thing you know Hagar and her child Ishmael are sent away. And as they wander through the desert, bad turns to worse and they run out of water. It is now it is inevitable that they are going to die.

Scripture:
“Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.” –  Gen 21:19

Observation/Application:
Hagar cannot stand her fate and sets the boy under a bush as the boy cries. And she sits far away so she cannot hear the boy cry, and she too starts to sob. Then God speaks to her saying, “Do not be afraid…Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.” Then in verse 19, it says, “Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.” We learn also that, “And God was with the boy, and he grew up. He lived in the wilderness and became an expert with the bow.” – Genesis 21:20.

What can we learn from this? God provides. Even in our deepest and darkest hour. All seemed lost to Hagar, yet God opened her eyes and she found a way through.  God gave her life sustaining water when all seemed lost. In Matthew 22:37, Jesus says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” And if we do this, God will find a way. God always finds a way. All is not lost. All can be found in Him.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today, and for revealing to us your great wisdom Lord. Help us to trust in you Lord, when all seems lost. Give us comfort and peace and strength knowing that you have us right where you want us Lord. Help us to feel the warmth of your embrace, and empowered by Your strength. Reveal to us your Way Lord. Give us the courage to face all that life may bring our way Lord. Help us to walk through the fire, and weather the storm, in peace, and with confidence knowing that You are in control. We ask this in the name of Your One and only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
