God’s Grace And Cool Cars

Today’s scripture is one that makes sense logically, but resonates deeply when you experience it first-hand. It is also the inspiration behind the chorus of Matt Maher’s hit song, “Your Grace Is Enough”. In case you are not familiar with it, here are some of the lyrics:

Great is Your faithfulness, oh God
You wrestle with the sinner’s heart
You lead us by still waters and to mercy
And nothing can keep us apart
Great is Your love and justice, God
You use the weak to lead the strong
You lead us in the song of Your salvation
And all Your people sing along
Your grace is enough, Your grace is enough, Your grace is enough for me

Scripture:
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Observation/Application:
Like Paul, I can boast in my experiences where I have been made weak, and about what God has done for me during this time. There was a time in life where I was making huge amounts of money, was in the spotlight of fame, and by worldly standards was on top of the world. But then it was all stripped away. But in my weakness I was made strong. Where I thought I was lost, I was found. I was lifted lifted up by God’s grace. What I had lost in worldly terms was replaced by so much more… wisdom and understanding, peace and joy, and love and mercy at whole new levels that only come through the revelation of God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. God opened doors that I didn’t even know existed, and closed doors that I didn’t need. He kept me away from doors that were harming me even though in the flesh I wanted them open. He saved me from myself.

Today life is so much different. God provides for me daily through His Word, and in full surrender. He answers all of my questions, and leads me through all situations at work, at home, in relationships, and in all things. I was made weak so that I could be made strong in Him. God’s answer is grace. The tougher the problem, the greater the grace. One of the great lessons in life for me has been to let Jesus take the wheel on this road that we call life. God is so much better at steering then I could ever be! His car is so much faster, safer. He always know the best ways to get to where I need to go. Does anyone love cars or racing? Take note, God wins every race. God has the coolest car in school, and in this race that we call life.

Just as God’s power over death and the grave was revealed through Christ’s obedience and weakness, so might God’s power be revealed through our weakness. Christ truly showed us the Way!

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for this Word this morning. Thank you for letting me rest and recharge and renewing my strength. Thank you for filling me with you Word, and with wisdom and understanding that can only come from you! We surrender to You Lord. Take the steering wheel in our lives. Help us to walk in your grace, in your presence, in your Way. Help me to love everyone who you bring across my path today. Let your Will be done as I walk in Your light. We are so thankful that your grace is enough. We give you all the honor and glory and praise, in Jesus mighty name, Amen.

  • “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” – (James 4:7-10)
