Faith

Scripture: ” Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. “For by it our ancestors won God’s approval. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.” – Hebrews 11:1-3

“Now without faith it is impossible to please God, since the one who draws near to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” – Hebrews 11:6

“These all died in faith, although they had not received the things that were promised. But they saw them from a distance, greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth. Now those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they were thinking about where they came from, they would have had an opportunity to return. But they now desire a better place — a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.” – Hebrews 11:13-16

Observation/Application:
Faith is the reality of what is hoped for. Without our faith everything we believe falls apart. We read about so many brave people in the Bible. People who believed in God with all their heart. People who believed Christ was the Messiah, the One to come. We read about people who watched with their own eyes the miracles of Christ, like the people who watched with their own eyes the walls of Jericho fall down. They got to witness this and believed.

We only rely on faith. By my faith I believe the Bible is true. I believe what I read is true. I believe it is true because I serve a powerful almighty God. I serve a God who created the world. I serve a God who sent his only son to die for me. I serve Christ. I serve him by my faith and obedience to Him.

Whoever wrote the book of Hebrews wanted to point out that these great people of faith never received the things they were promised. They could see the vision of the promise. They could see that they were only visiting here. They kept striving toward that promise and obeying God and never looked back. They knew they wanted a better place, a place where God was there.

Sometimes in life we have to have faith and keep working toward God. Keep obeying Christ’s call on our lives. Every step we take toward Christ is one step closer to a home with God. We are only visiting here and God has a plan for us. God has a promise that is bigger than us. The promise he made Abraham was bigger than him. Without faith Abraham would have failed. Without faith Noah would not have built the Ark. Without faith the Israelites would not have crossed the Red Sea.

We have to realize that we are one part to the promise. Focus on what is to come and remember we are here for a short while. Let God see our faith in action. Our home is with him. He needs us to stand up like all the great people we read about and be bold in faith. Don’t let the world tell you it can’t be done. Trust in God.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for your word. Thank you for reminding me that my purpose is bigger than me. My purpose here is to help fulfill the promises you have made. We all work together for the good of you. My focus is on Christ. I know this is not my home. I am thankful for all the blessing you have given me. Use me today. Holy Spirit lead me and speak for me. In Jesus’ mighty name! AMEN
