Life Giving Water

This weekend I had the pleasure of doing some work outdoors. After just 5 minutes in the hot sun however, sweat was pouring down my skin. And after a couple hours I was completely drenched. I could feel the heat on the back of my neck and on my arms. I was hot, and needed a drink of water in a big way. Unfortunately, where I was working didn’t have any electric or water hookup. So I stayed focused on the task at hand and pressed forward, because there was work to be done.

Scripture: “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb” – Rev. 22:1

Observation/Application:
We all get thirsty. It is part of our human nature. Water sustains our body, and keeps it functioning properly. As sweat poured out, I thought, (1) it’s hot out here, and (2) when I get done I am getting a huge glass of water and chugging it down. It sure would have been nice if there was a water supply nearby. In hindsight I know that I should have brought more to drink with me. But knowing that I was going to have water when I got home allowed me to press forward to finish the work.

The same principle applies to our journey in life. There are times in life just like that day in the burning sun. Life can get hot, the heat beating down on us and causing us to sweat, stress out, and physically wear down. And we get thirsty. Our minds and our souls need refreshed. We need something that is going to refresh our minds and our souls just like this water refreshes our bodies during the heat of the day.

And with God, that is exactly what we have. When it gets hot, and we are sweating, and in desperate need of a drink, God is like a river, as clear as crystal, providing life giving water. God is always right there with the “water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.” – (Rev. 22:1). God is always ready to give us the drink that we need. He is ready to relieve our burdens, to help us in our every need, and to fight our every battles.

When we get thirsty, when we get stressed, when life is heating us up and beating us down, when we get confused on what we should do, when the pressure seems like more than we can take, all we need to do is turn to Jesus. “Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.” – (Rev. 22:17).

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Let your Word fill us, renew us, strengthen us, encourage us, and bless us and the work of our hands. Let your crystal clear water of life be our source. The is nothing that we more. Relieve our burdens, our stress, our struggles. We turn it all over to you Lord, we fully surrender to You. We know that all things are possible through you. And we seek you first, each and every day. Help us to know that you are with us Lord, each and every day, each and every moment. Bless our every action, our every word, our every thought. We give you the honor and glory, and praise, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
