Are We Just Puppets On A String?
Sometimes we feel like life is taking over. We are so busy. There are so many bills to pay. We have so many commitments between work, family, school, trying to keep up with the news, sports, movies and television shows not to mention our hobbies. There is just barely enough time in the day to get everything done that we want and need to get done. Things like food, alcohol, social media, and other addictions are becoming more common and taking over our lives or the lives of those around us, causing problems in our health, in our relationships, and in our livelihood. Sometimes it seems like we are trapped, losing control, and a pawn in this life – like a puppet on a string.
Scripture:
“But the LORD is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.” – Psalm 129:4
Observation/Application:
It’s easy for the demands of life to take over. Like a marionette, a puppet on a string, we get pulled in one direction and another. We can get overwhelmed, consumed, stretched and stressed. Many turn to mask the pain or the root of the problem with alcohol, drugs, social media, or other addictions. Others try to hide or ignore the problem and just shut down, or go into seclusion. But the problem never goes away until we deal with it.
Today’s scripture tells us that God has cut us free from the cords of the wicked. When we put God first in our life, and make Christ our first priority, the strings of addiction, worry, stress, anxiety, depression, and mediocrity are cut, severed, removed – and we can live free from these cords that were once controlling us. By putting Christ in control of our lives, we are no longer subject to the puppet-master, the enemy, who comes to steal kill, and destroy.
How are we set free? The answer is actually very simple. God’s Word. Through God’s Word we learn the truth. Jesus is the Truth, the Light, and the Way. – (John 14:6) And when we continue in the study of God’s Word, then we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. – (John 8:32)
It is a choice that all comes down to who we want to control our lives. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. – (John 10:10) But with God there is freedom. With God we are cut free from all of the cords of stress, anxiety, worry, addiction, depression, and anything that is not pure and perfect and holy. Everything good comes from God. – (James 1:17) And through Him all things are possible. – (Matthew 19:26)
If you are ready to say goodbye to the marionette and cut the strings that are controlling you, causing you hardship, and holding you back, and embrace the amazing life that God has planned for you… then now is the time to make it happen. It’s never too late. God’s love never ends, and never fails. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. – (Hebrews 13:8). And He will always be with us, today, tomorrow, and forever.
Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. We seek you first Lord, and out our trust in You! We know that all good things come through you, and everything that is not good comes from the enemy. We seek you with all our hearts Lord, and put our trust in you, and our hope in you. Fill us with your goodness, and cleanse us from everything that is not good and pure and holy. Cut the cords of worry, stress, anxiety, depression, and addiction that are controlling us. Every time we are tempted let us turn to you Lord, so that you may strengthen us to get us through. You are our strength Lord. We thank you and honor you and give you all the glory, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
