Outside Of The Box

Have you ever had an amazing idea that everyone else thinks is crazy? Have you ever been described as an out of the box thinker? Sometimes being described as an out of the box thinker is meant to be a compliment, while others use it as a polite way to let you know that they think you are a little weird. But don’t worry, you are in good company!

Scripture:
“They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them.  Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them.  Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on.  When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” – Mark 2:2-5

Observation/Application:
These men had such strong faith that they thought way outside of the box and climbed up on the roof, cut out a hole, and lowered this guy down so that he could be brought before Jesus. Talk about outside the box. And what happens next? Jesus heals this man. Say whatever you want about people who think outside of the box. But I think I want a few of those people around me if I ever become sick and lame, because those are the ones who are going to think outside of the box and actually do something to help me. They won’t be bound by the rules, and the norms, and the boundaries of what everyone else thinks.

When we know Christ, and the love and power of God our Father, we understand that God’s ways are not our ways. His ways are unseen. When Jesus was walking the earth, His ways were not normal. God is far from normal. God is far from conventional. So when we are referred to as unconventional, that may just be the greatest compliment of our lives, especially if it is because we are obeying God’s call.

When we surrender to God, and allow Him to work in our lives, we may in fact be classified as out of the box thinkers. And sometimes they might mean that as a compliment, and sometimes that might be code for them thinking we are a little abnormal. But being a little unconventional, thinking outside the box, that is what greatness is made of. The first computer, the first automobile the first man in flight – these great things were not produced by people who thought normally. And our God is not a God of normal and conventional. Our God is a God who is unconventional, and supernatural. And with God there are no limits, no boundaries, nothing that can fit inside of any box.

But God definitely did not create us to live inside of a box. He created us in His own image, with a vision for our lives that is so much larger and so much greater than we could ever imagine. Maybe it’s time for us to quit limiting our thinking, and limiting ourselves.

Maybe it’s time to start thinking, and to start living, outside the box.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for this amazing Word today! Thank you for such a beautiful and amazing day! For this is the day that you have made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it – today and always Lord. Thank you for our very breath, our very life, and everything in it. Thank you for deeming me worthy of life Jesus, and for your sacrifice on the cross for our sins and for our salvation. We are so humbled before you. And we lay ourselves down at your feet Lord. We lay everything that we are and that we have at your feet Lord. Fill us with your goodness. Wash us clean, and make us new. We fully surrender to you. We give you all the honor, and glory, and praise, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
