The Universe and the Beginning of Time

How the earth was formed, where life first came from, what was there in the beginning of time, how large is the universe – these are questions that man has not been able to answer for as long as we have existed. We can do our best to understand them, and we have been trying for thousands of years. But when it comes down to it, there are things that we will never know during our lives on earth.

Scripture:
“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?” – Job 38:4

Observation/Application:
Some of the greatest minds this world has known have wrestled with this same question – how it all began. Scientists and philosophers have done their best to figure it out, but to no avail. In the end, man will never know the answer to this question. We are limited by our senses, and by our perspective here on earth. But have we ever considered that there is a something that exists beyond the one which we know?

Some will try to deceive you into thinking that there is nothing after this life. But don’t take their word for it. Knowing whether or not we will just be a pile of decaying flesh and bones when we die is a pretty substantial question, one that one should not take lightly. And if there is life after that as we know it, wouldn’t we want to know how to get there?

To me this question is essential to life and purpose. Knowing where we came from is so important if we are to know how to get home. Be careful what we take as fact. Science saying that we evolved from apes, and that the earth is millions of years old – but these are just man-made theories. And as we already know, man is limited in wisdom and perspective. Man has not been around since the beginning of time. But God has. And God knows the answers to these questions that have perplexed man from the beginning.

It comes down to a choice. We can choose to believe man, or we can choose to believe God. It’s like gym class when getting picked onto a team, we get to be on one team or the other. We can side with man, or we can side with God. There is no in-between. And here’s a newsflash, God’s team always wins.

Don’t be deceived. Sure science is real, but it is limited by man in this life. What about everything that is beyond our limited understanding and perspective, and beyond our lives?  There is life after the one that we are now in. God is real. Heaven is real. And so is hell. And there is only one God, our maker, the Creator of all things. And we can come to know him if we actually stop taking other people’s word for it, and commit to finding out the truth for ourselves.

I challenge you to study the Word of God. Find yourself a good professor of the Word of God at a local church, and get into a bible study. Commit to figuring this out, not only for your own sake, but for the sake of those you love. The greatest gift that we could ever have is the gift of salvation, and eternal life. And it is available for everyone who comes to seek it, through God the Father through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. We come to you with open hearts and open minds. Remove all obstacles from our hearts that are keeping your goodness from flowing through it. Wash our minds of all of the junk that is getting in the way. Help us to get out of our own way God. We know that all wisdom and understanding comes through you. For you created the heaven and the earth, and all things in it. For what is impossible with man, is not impossible with God. We turn to you Lord. Reveal to us your wisdom and understanding. Guide our thoughts to know you Lord. Draw us close. Help our unbelief. Strengthen and encourage us each day Lord. Help us to trust you Lord. Renew us, refresh us, lift us up. Guide our steps, guide our thoughts, and guide our words Lord. Help us to love everyone who comes across our path today. Open our hearts to you, all the day through, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
