Work Ethic

Every one of us has 24 hours in the day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Time is a constrained resource in our lives, there is only so much of it. It’s like land, God isn’t really making a bunch of it any more from what I can tell. Time doesn’t replenish itself or grow on trees. And once the day is over, it is over. And what has been done, is done. Time is the very thing that this life as we know it is made up of. And we only get one life here on earth, so let us use our time wisely.

Scripture:
“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people” – Ephesians 6:7

Observation/Application:
We all have our roles in life and are accountable to others in some way to others. We may think that we are not, but ultimately our actions, or our lack thereof, have consequences. Do we work when others are watching, and then slack off when they are not? This is not helping us. We are undermining our lives, our joy, our peace, our relationships. We may think that we are really getting away with something, but we are not. This is the devil’s work and will harm us in the end.

Are we people pleasers? This is not good either. Everything we have is a gift from God, so ultimately we are all working for Him. If we are too worried about pleasing people, then we often miss doing what is pleasing to God His calling in our lives. This scripture teaches us that we are to work with all our hearts and for the Lord. What work is God calling us to? Where has he placed us, for a time and a season?

Wherever God has placed us, let us serve those around us wholeheartedly. Let us pray for a strong work ethic, for our time on earth is limited. And let us always look to God, our wonderful Counselor, for direction.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Help us to make the most of every day through hard work and obedience to your calling in our lives. Help us to know if where you have us to today is exactly where you want us to be Lord, or you have something more for us Lord. Help us to seek you first Lord, and know that you alone are our strength, our wonderful Counselor, our mighty Lord. Fill us with all of your goodness, and wash away everything that is not good and pure and holy. Let your light shine in us Lord, as your Holy Spirit overflows in us. Help us get out of our own way Lord. Lift us up today. Encourage us. Strengthen us. motivate us. Guide our every thought, our every word, our every action. Help us to talk in your love today, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
