Diligence and Progress

It’s funny how I wrote yesterday about running to the Word before the world gets you, and it’s 9:30pm as I begin today’s journal. Like I said, the devil is cruel and the master of distraction. But remain faithful. Don’t give up. Never give in. Have faith.

Scripture:
“Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.” – 1 Timothy 4:15

Observation/Application:
When life is going great, when things are easy, that is often not the test. True we may being tested to see what we will do with all of that goodness. Are we hoarding it or are we sharing in it? But our internal test of faith comes when things get rough, when no one else is watching, and when peer pressure is pressing against our calling. We are tested when it seems like everyone in the world is questioning our commitment to going to church, reading the Word, journaling every day. But our diligence and commitment to the Lord has more to do with than just us. As today’s scripture reveals, it affects those around us as well.

So let us remain diligent in our walk. Hang in there when things get tough. Push through when we are stretched to the end, when we are tired, when it would be easy to let the weight of the flesh, and our earthly desires prevail. If we love God more than we love ourselves, that always helps.  May we know the love of God in that way, that we desire nothing more, and make it through. And by His promise, one day we will overcome. Stay strong. Have faith. I call you blessed.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word. Thank you for building up a strong habit and commitment to you Lord. Thank you for building the same commitment to those who you have trusted in my care on this earth. Help me continue to be worthy of the blessings that you have entrusted in me. Bless my family, and help all of my brothers and sisters in Christ to know you, and to desire you more Lord. Reveal yourself to them, that they may see past our own limitations. Help us to see you so clearly, that it is like scales falling from our eyes. Give us rest Lord. Fill our hearts full of nothing but your love and goodness, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
