Finish Strong

It is certainly fun to sit around and talk about fun memories from time to time. It is especially nice during the holidays to remember and cherish times spent with family. But as we get older, our bodies don’t work like they used to. We may not be able to run as fast or long, jump as high, lift as much weight. And we get jobs, and have families, and our lives become more complex. And it becomes easier to romanticize the days of the past, the “glory days.” And eventually we tell jokes about being over the hill, and maybe even start to believe that our best days are behind us.

Scripture:
“and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, ‘Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.'” John 2:9,10

Observation/Application:
Most people serve the good wine first, but God saves the best wine for last. We may think we’re too old, but God can make everything brand new. Because of things that we have done and might regret from our past, we may think that we are dirty water. But God can wash us clean, and can even turn us into new wine. We may think  that our best days, our “glory days”, are in the past. But with God our best days are yet to come. God can take anything he wants, and turn it into whatever he needs.

Let us seek first the Lord and his kingdom, that we might be used for his glory and that his purpose may be fulfilled in us. Let us finish strong. God has certainly saved the best wine, our remaining days, for last.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Thank you for revealing to me faith building insight and words that encourage and lift us up. We know that you make all things new. We know that nothing is impossible through You. We know that instead of telling God how big our problems are, that we should tell our problems how big our God is. Be with those who struggle in faith Lord, and seek the truth. Reveal to them the truth of your Son Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and the one true Way to our home in heaven when our work here is done. We are so thankful for the truth of John 3:16, and for all that you have done for us. Let our lives be worthy of the sacrifice that you have made for us. We seek you first. You know our hearts Lord. Fill us with your Holy Spirit now, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
