Authority And Total Power

Have you ever hung out with someone of real power and authority? Life is very different for them. One such time I found myself pulling up to a waterside restaurant in a huge boat to an order of champagne and oysters and beverages for the huge group of people. People jumped at the mention of any request. It was the most amazing display of service that I have ever experienced.

The centurion in today’s scripture was quite familiar with this authority. He knew that because of his authority, whatever was asked would get done. And since Jesus had authority, he knew that all Jesus had to do was speak the Word and it would be done. And there is no greater power and authority than the Word of God.

Scripture:
“The centurion replied, ‘Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed’.” – Matthew 8:8

Observation/Application:
Are you struggling with a family member, or in your relationship with your spouse or a significant other? Are you having trouble at work? Are you sick? Are you suffering in some other way that only you know? God knows too. And by the Word of God we know that all things good come from Him while everything else comes from the enemy. If there is anything bad in your life right now, understand that it did not come from God.

Know also that God has authority over all things. He has power over death and life itself. We see the power of God throughout the life of Jesus who performed countless miracles. He healed the sick, rose the dead, cast out demons, and made the blind see. We walked on water, rose Lazarus from the dead, and even controlled the wind and the waves. God has the ultimate authority. When we walk with God, he has the power to move mountains. He has done it countless times, and He will do it again.

There is so much that we cannot understand when it comes to God and His ways. We are humans and limited by our flesh and blood and things like our five known senses. But God is unlimited and has power and authority over all things seen and unseen. That is why the bible says to lean not unto our own understanding but unto God alone. For us to believe in something that we cannot see requires faith. But if we seek the Lord with all of our heart, God will reveal himself to us. And the closer we get to Him, the more that we will see. Then perhaps we will gain the wisdom like the centurion of the authority of our living God.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Thank you for helping us understand authority, and Your Authority! We know that you have the power above all things. We know that you hear us and we thank you for what you are doing on our behalf, in the past, present and future. Strengthen our faith and help us to fully trust in you. Be with those who are hurting Lord, comfort them during this time. Relieve their burdens and help them to see a future that is big and bright. Make us new from the inside out. I ask that you bless all of my family and friends today and to fill their hearts with your goodness. Give us wisdom, peace, understanding, hope, joy, love, faith, mercy, grace, health, all good things that come through you. Let our days be blessed, as we give you all the honor and glory and praise, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
