Lessons From A Butterfly
A caterpillar is a little worm-like insect that goes through life inching along the ground. It moves very slow, crawling from place to place. One might say it is not the most attractive little creature. But over time what happens? Eventually, the caterpillar fills its belly full of leaves, hangs itself upside down, turns itself into basically soup, and transforms into a beautiful butterfly that is free to fly wherever it wants to.

Scripture:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2
Observation/Application:
When we accept Jesus and surrender our hearts and minds to Him, we are transformed just like a butterfly. We are no longer limited to inch along, crawling through this life. We have wings and can fly, going places that we would have never been able to go before. We are free, and have a whole new perspective than when we were crawling on the ground. And we are far more beautiful than what we were in the past.
But becoming a butterfly does not happen overnight. It takes time. It requires us to get rid of our old self. That caterpillar actually creates a cocoon around itself, releases enzymes and turn itself into soup, basically digesting itself, and transforms itself into something completely new. And like the process of the butterfly, the Word of God begins to transform us, digesting our old self, and making us into something completely new. And our old self is gone. We are made brand new, transformed from the inside out.
Like a caterpillar, let us fill ourselves with God’s Word, that it will begin a similar transformation in us!
Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Let your Word fill our hearts and minds, and transform us from the inside out. Create a new life in us Lord, get rid of our old self that is limited by the things of this world. Release us into freedom and life and perspective that can only be found in you Lord! Every time we see a butterfly Lord, remind us of the caterpillar who once crawled upon the ground inching their way through life. Remind us that our lives can be transformed through your Word, by the power of the Holy Spirit, and through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
