Friends Don’t Let Friends Go To Hell

“Friends don’t let friends drink and drive” was a popular slogan during the campaign for drunk driving awareness. The goal was to save lives. “Friends don’t let friends go to hell” is a great slogan with a very similar purpose. But being saved from eternal fire and suffering is a far greater gift of everlasting consequence. Not being saved means certain death of the body, the mind, and our chance of eternity in heaven.

Scripture:
“Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.” – Jude 22-23

Observation/Application:
If our best friend were diagnosed with cancer and we had the cure, would we not share it with them?  Certainly we would! If we kept it to ourselves and they found out, they would not be very happy with us, and for good reason! Similarly, as Christians we have the cure for a sickness that is plaguing many people we know. Do we withhold the knowledge of this cure to ourselves and not share it with our friends? Fast forward to them not being saved and sitting in hell only to learn that we had the cure all along but we failed to share it with them. What kind of friend are we?

A good friend would snatch their friend from the fires of hell and eternal suffering. A good friend would have the uncomfortable conversation. A good friend, even if they failed, would at least have tried.  Invite someone to come to church, or to a Bible study. Ask them what they think happens to them when they die. Not sure what to say, leave us a comment. There are plenty of people ready and willing to help. Do what it takes. stand firm. Friends don’t let friends go to hell.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Thank you for sharing the cure for a sickness that deeply infects all of us. Thank you for sending your Son to save us from ourselves. Thank you for saving us from eternal fire and suffering, and giving us a path to heaven. Help us to live our lives in a manner worthy of your sacrifice. Guide our every step, our every thought, our every word. Draw us close to you. Let your Holy Spirit overflow in us. We give you all the honor and glory and praise, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
