Peter’s 8-Step Process

There are many books out there that were written for the purpose of trying to help us find direction in life. Many of these are not so helpful, while there are a few that I would recommend. For example, “What Color Is My Parachute” is written from the standpoint of helping someone define their career path. But my top recommendation would be “Purpose Driven Life”, by Rick Warren. Of course there is one book that surpasses all others when it comes to finding purpose, direction, joy, peace, satisfaction, fulfillment, strength, courage, and an unlimited supply of goodness and blessings in life. And that book is the Bible, the living Word of God.

Scripture:
“Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,” – 2 Peter 1:10

Observation/Application:
How do we confirm our calling? God has given us everything that we need. And to this, Peter shares his 8-step process of what we should add to our lives:

  1. Faith – the foundation
  2. Virtue – strong character and discipline
  3. Knowledge – understanding of what God values
  4. Self-Control – leading oneself
  5. Perseverance – sticking to what is right
  6. Godliness – Spirit-filled lifestyle that reflects and honors God
  7. Brotherly Kindness – relational and caring
  8. Love – what Jesus modeled best

Peter tells us to make every effort and succeed in obtaining these 8 things, we will never stumble, and we will never fall. How are we developing in each of these? What a great quick self-checkup to start off the day.

I call you blessed.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Thank you for giving us everything that we need to confirm your calling and election Lord. Let us seek you first Lord, as for me and my house we will serve You. Jeremiah 29:13 tells us that “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart, and Hebrews 11:6 says that God, “rewards those who earnestly seek him”. Reward us Lord with thy gifts. Forgive us of all of our failures and follies Lord. Wash us clean, make us new, fill us with your goodness. Let your light so shine that others are drawn to you Lord. We give you all the honor and glory and praise, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
