Spiritual Muscles
One of the hottest trends of the last couple of decades has been health and fitness. We’ve seen everything promoted from equipment, to dieting, to fitness plans. We are surrounded with images of beauty and health, and have huge gyms where a healthy body is promoted.

Scripture:
“The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you–they are full of the Spirit and life.” – John 6:63
Observation/Application:
Millions of people attend the fitness centers for the purpose of taking care of their earthly bodies. We watch what we eat, do cross-fit or hit-training, take spin classes, go for a run, and there is always some new workout program or diet. When we work out we push ourselves to the point of almost getting sick, while our muscles get stronger and more developed as a result. Just like we have muscles in our bodies that need to be exercised, so too do we have spiritual muscles that need exercise. Today’s scripture points out that the flesh counts for nothing, whereas God’s Word is full of the Spirit and life. Let us allow the Word of God to exercise our spiritual muscles and reveal God’s beauty, Spirit, and life in us.
Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Let your Word sink deep into our hearts and minds Lord. Let us exercise our spiritual muscles for your glory. Draw us closer to you each day. Guide our every action, our every word, and our every thought. Let others see your beautiful Spirit and seek to exercise their spiritual muscles as well Lord. Fill us with your goodness, refresh us, renew us, and give us rest and peace, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
