Fruit of the Vine

Scripture: “I am the vine; You are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5

Observation/Application:
In John 15, Jesus teaches us that we are the branches, and that God is the vine. As branches will wither an die when they are separated from the vine, so will we wither and die if we are separated from our root system, our nourishment, our provider. Jesus also teaches us that if we stay connected with Him, if we remain in him and he in us, that we will bear fruit. What is this fruit that we will bear? Let’s see what John 15 has to say.

First, we will become his disciples and lead others to Him through our faith and testimony. – (John 5:8). What a great reward knowing that we can save others, those we love, from death, fire, and eternal damnation. We will also bear the fruit of love. – (John 15: 9,10). All of us need love, and God is the source and unlimited supply. Jesus also promises that we will bear the fruit of full and complete joy. – (John 15:11). Who doesn’t want to be happy? And who doesn’t want the kind of joy that no matter what circumstances that we face, our joy cannot be shaken? Jesus tells us that we will also gain wisdom. He says, “for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” – (John 15: 15). All of these blessings, and so much more! And all we have to do is to ask for them through prayer, “so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” – (John 15:16).

Some lead us to believe that we are not to be blessed, but God’s Word is true. Jesus himself promises us such fruit. Don’t believe me, read John 15 for yourself. Do we need more love, need more joy, need more wisdom? It’s all right there for us. God has all that we ever need.

If you do not already know the Lord Jesus Christ, I invite you to come to know him today. Seek God first in all that you do. Learn who he is, and the endless supply that he has for us. Once you do, I guarantee that you will never want to be separated from him. I pray that we get so close to God that we grow in faith, love, joy, wisdom, and peace, knowing all that God can do.

You may have read about how God once parted the Red Sea. Scripture teaches us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. So if he did it then, he can do it now. Imagine what he can do for you and me. What’s most important to know is that Jesus loved us so much that he laid down his life for us so that we could always be forgiven of our mistakes and weaknesses. Jesus died for us and rose from the grave, so that we might live to the fullest, and in his fullness, today.

Jesus is alive today and wants nothing more than for us to come to him and come to know the love he has for us. He chose each and every one of us – yes that means he chose you! There is no two people exactly alike in all of creation. Each of us was created for a unique and special purpose. I pray that you come to know Jesus, and you see him as the vine – our source of life, and the provider and all that we ever need. And I pray that you let God show you who you really are, and all that He has in store for you.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. You are the vine, our source of life and all that we need. Without you we can do nothing. Through you we can do all things. We thank you for all that you have done, and for all that you provide. Let your goodness flow straight from the vine through us, your branches. Help us to bear fruit – fruit that will last, just as you promised. We love you with all our hearts, and seek you first. We open ourselves to you fully, and receive all that you have for us, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
