Fortnite Weaponry And The Word of God
I was hanging out with my boys last Sunday, and watching them play this game called Fortnite, a war game where they can get different guns and ammunition, each with different levels of effectiveness. And the best gun in that game, according to my boys, is the legendary scar. It has the most damage and is super-fast. It is similar to the sharpest double-edge sword of old.

Scripture:
“For the Word of God is active and alive. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12
Observation/Application:
But the Word of God is superior to all weapons. It is more powerful than the legendary scar. It is sharper, bigger, and badder-to-the-bone. It is the strongest weapon that exists. And it is active and alive.
If you’ve seen Star Wars it is like the force. It allows things to happen that don’t seem possible. But with God, all things are possible. Notice that scripture doesn’t say that some things are possible. It says ALL things.
If you were in the Fortnite video game armed with the Word of God, you would be guaranteed to win. Every knee bows down to you. The enemy is miraculously destroyed when you come into the area. You tell a mountain to move, and the mountain moves out of your way.
Entire city walls crumble to the ground when you blow your trumpet. Swarms of locusts surround the enemy and other plagues destroy them. When you need to get across the water, you just put your staff in the water and the waters part. Then you can run across the dry ground while the armies chase you only to have the huge walls of water come crashing down on them and destroying them all.
Every time you need protection, the name of Jehovah protects you when you run to it. And when you need a slurp, chug, splash, or shield, the water that you drink gives you eternal life.
Heck, you even know the thoughts and attitudes of the enemy. You get notifications on their moves in advance before they make them so that you are prepared and are ready to deal with whatever they try to throw at you. You can read their minds, as “everything is uncovered and laid bare” before you. – (Hebrews 4:13).
All things are possible when you are armed with the Word of God in this game. And the best part of all is that you are guaranteed to win every time. And the spoils, all of the blessings, go to you, the faithful, the obedient, and to the one who is armed with God’s Word.

Ok, so perhaps this analogy about a video game and the most powerful weaponry may seem a bit silly. But this video game is not really much different than this war that you and I are in today.
In this video game that we call life, the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. The battle is real. And it truly is a matter of life and death for eternity. The battle is as serious as it gets.
In this life on earth we are in the battlefield, in Satan’s playground. What weapons are we going to choose? Are we going to rely on our own strength? Sorry but that won’t work. Even the best and strongest will be eventually be overtaken by the enemy who have too many forces and too many attacks.
And even if somehow we can survive for a very long time, we all eventually die someday. Our bodies rot in the ground, and that is the end of our game. But God’s team lives on even after the fighting is over. That team never dies.
It’s like constant rejuvenation, healing, and repair. When the game of life on earth is over, it is the bonus rounds, the extended play, for all eternity! Jesus overcame death and the grave for you and I. God’s team always wins.
Some people decide to join Satan’s team. They accumulate wealth at the expense of others, and their hearts are far from God. On the surface it appears that they are winning. They have big houses, lots of money, fast cars, big businesses – it seems like a good deal.
And while things might look good for a while, it is a false comfort. For in the end they will lose unless they are on God’s team. All of their weaponry and earthly possessions go to someone else. They certainly can’t take it all with them when they die.
But the Word of God is active and alive. It never dies. It is THE primary weapon against the enemy in this life and beyond. And once we understand this, we would be crazy to go through this life, through this battle, without the weapon of the Word of God.
And the more understanding we get of God’s Word, the higher levels of power that are unlocked. Higher levels of the understanding of God’s Word yield higher levels of faith. Higher levels of faith yield higher levels of power. Best of all, just like playing Fortnite, it is FREE!
Today’s journal dedicated to my boys, and all the young ones out there who play Fortnite. Let us always remember the greatest weapon in this world and in this life is the Word of God, and that God’s team always wins.
I call you blessed.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Thank you for revealing to me your greatness in a way that my children and many young people and “gamers” will understand. Help us to know the reality of the spiritual battle that we are in, and reveal how you Word is the truth, the light, and the Way. Fill me with courage and wisdom, and help me to continue to hear your voice and be obedient to your Will. Let us walk in your truth and light, with a full measure of your Holy Spirit. We receive you and all of your Promise, and give you all the honor and glory and praise, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
